Together We're Community!

KZFR Community Radio began broadcasting July 6th, 1990 after years of hard work by some very dedicated pioneers. Erik Mathisen is regarded as the prime mover who got the ball rolling. Lee Edwards and Lars Larson are among the folks we honor for putting KZFR on the air.

We're lucky they managed to pull it off, too! There just aren't many community radio stations left in the United States. Today, KZFR Community Radio operates with the support of approximately 120 community volunteers who provide a wide variety of music programming as well as local public affairs and information programs. We'd be honored if you would vote for us. You'll find us in the Community section of the ballet, of course! There's no Community Radio without You!
To celebrate 35 years of independent community radio, "Mic Check: An Oral History of KZFR" takes listeners behind the scenes of KZFR 90.1 FM’s earliest days.
Youth members of the Boys & Girls Club of the North Valley recently toured the station. Our GM gave them a behind the scenes look at an independent, nonprofit community radio station. Your group could too!
