WALK WOOF WAG EVENT CELEBRATES 10TH YEAR!

The Walk Woof Wag has been a Chico favorite event for 10 years. This beloved Chico event was inspired by Chico youth, Bryce Velasco, who wanted to honor his dog, Jasmine, who was adopted through Chico Animal Shelter. In 2014, Bryce was in the 8th grade at Marsh Junior High School and taking a leadership class that required students to perform a service project. Bryce’s vision was a walk that would be festive and fun and raise funds for Chico Animal Shelter. He joined forces with Dr. Sarah Richardson, owner of the Canine Connection, and raised $90,000 to date for the Chico Animal Shelter’s medical fund. Ten years later, the event is still a success and the largest fundraiser for the most needy animals in Chico.

WHEN: Saturday, Oct 28th 9 am - 12 pm

The community is encouraged to attend, bring friends, family, and, of course, their dog, enjoy games and treats, and connect with the other pet lovers who want to raise money for the Chico Animal Shelter’s medical fund.

The Chico Animal Shelter relies on donations from the community to help abandoned, ill and injured animals in the city. Every year, they have to raise $65,000 to meet the medical needs of the community and bring these animal’s back to health to be adopted out to loving, forever homes.

To make this event a success, the Walk Woof Wag aims to have 500 participants. Event planner Celeste Cramer stated, “We are aiming to have 500 people attend the event, and we look forward to sharing the story about the Chico Animal Shelter’ medical fund with the community members who join the walk.” She added that anyone interested in becoming a donor or sponsor of the event can visit www.WalkWoofWag.com to join the cause.

Deadline to have a business, organization or family name on the event shirts is Sept 22nd.

Note about this year’s poster: Every year the Walk Woof Wag committee chooses an inspirational dog to be featured on the event commemorative posters. Each featured dog has benefited from the medical fund in which the event raises funds as a reminder of what the event is all about. For the 10th year, two special dogs were chosen. Hallie and Fonzie were found in an abandoned truck soaking wet and dying of Parvo.

Current major sponsors include: The Canine Connection, North Valley Community Foundation, Tri Counties Bank, Friends of the Animal Shelter, For The Love Of Dog, PG&E, Pink Penguin Events & Marketing, KZFR, Thunder 100.7, Power 102.1, Z Rock 106.7, and Bob FM 92.7.

Thanks to the Chico Animal Shelter’s staff and the help of the medical fund, they were nursed back to health and adopted into loving homes.
