Dr. G received his Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from University of Colorado where he also earned a Graduate Certificate in Ethnic Studies. Dr. G is an active upright and electric bass player and has performed with and opened for many jazz and hip-hop greats, including Danilo Perez, Jack DeJohnette, Black Eyed Peas, 2 Live Crew, and Method Man. As a bandleader, he has formed and led successful bands whose styles ranged from hip-hop to Latin jazz. Dr. G’s big band compositions have been premiered by the CSU – Chico Big Band and he continues to be an active composer. Dr. G’s dissertation research involved the intersections of race, gender, class, and sexuality in New Orleans bounce music. He has presented his research at the National Queer People of Color Conference, where his paper was awarded an honorarium, the Sankofa Lecture Series on Hip Hop, and at the Society for Ethnomusicology 57th Annual Conference.
