March 29, 2017 -- Shahera Hyatt California Homeless Youth Project, Butte County Youth Advisory Council

"One of the phrases I always draw inspiration from is nothing about us, without us. In order to make meaningful change in any community it needs to be led by that community." -- Shahera Hyatt, Project Director at the California Homeless Youth Project on the need for local Youth Advisory Councils within our communities.

We lead the show with Shahera Hyatt from Sacramento who details efforts in Sacramento to address youth homelessness, an update on the recent National Network on Youth Homelessness seminar in Washington DC and the devastating impact of proposed HUD budget cuts on people experiencing poverty, the worst form of violence.

We end the show with a segment hosted by Jess Candela, facilitator for the Butte County Youth Advisory Council (YAC) featuring a conversation between Josh Indar, a mentor at the Butte County School Ties program, and Hailey a youth member of YAC who provides poignant and timely insights on being In/At-risk in Butte County, California.

"I was homeless multiple times growing up and that I want to be an advocate, that's my biggest thing, with all my different jobs is that I didn't have an advocate and I think it's really important." -- Hailey, a member of the Butte County YAC
