DAVE HOUSER - Local music icon and devoted family man Dave Houser passed away peacefully Sunday March 11th at his home in Oroville. Family and friends are invited to a "Musical Gathering in Dave's Honor," a potluck, Saturday, April 14th, from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. hosted by the Purple Line Winery, 760 Safford St. Oroville, Ca. Dave was born September 29, 1946, in Columbus, Ohio. The family moved to California when Dave was a grade-schooler, and settled in Santa Clara, where he grew up an athlete and early lover of music. When he was 18, Dave took guitar lessons from Jorma Kaukonen of Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna, and developed his great blues, ragtime, folk, and country styles. Dave went to college at Chico State, where he was an event-winning diver for the Wildcats swim team, and earned his degree in business. He played in bands, including the Fat City Ramblers, and taught guitar lessons while putting himself through college. Dave met the love of his life, Robin Huntington when she took guitar lessons from him at Valley Music in Oroville. They were married October 21, 1972 and began their family in Oroville. Dave's guitar teaching included years as an instructor for Butte College. He played in bands and did solo gigs at events and parties, and performed every Friday night at Shakey's for over 40 years. In 1991, Dave and Robin began Houser's Music on Bird St. in Oroville, which they owned and ran until Dave retired in 2007. Dave had a big personality with lots of humor and charm. He influenced and inspired countless people through his love of fun and music. He loved nothing more, though, than his big beautiful family. Dave leaves behind his mother, Nancy, wife Robin, brother Mike, sister Carolyn, daughters Heather, Lauren (Sam), Kate (Nick), and Sophia, granddaughters Emma and Lena, grandsons Lewin and Carson, nieces Laura, Lena, Callie, Amber and Ashley, and nephew Craig. He was predeceased by his father, Lee. "So much music, so little time." (Dave Houser)
