Internships
KZFR offers a range of internships to give hands-on experience opportunities in community radio and broadcasting. KZFR is a unique environment which allows Interns to become involved in the growth and development of the KZFR community while also learning invaluable skills in a real business setting. KFZR offers internships in Events & Public Relations, Music Library Development, Production & Technical, Marketing & Administration, News, and Program Development & Research Assistant. How to apply:
KZFR Interns are hired on a semester basis (February-May and September-December). To apply for a KZFR internship you must fill out our online application. Once you have completed the application please email your resume to internships@kzfr.org

General requirements:
At KZFR we generally look for individuals who are self-motivated, independent workers, team players, who have an interest in music and/or broadcasting and enjoy working with the community. A basic knowledge of electronic communication and basic experience with Microsoft Word and Excel is a plus.
Types of Internships:
Events and P.R. Internship
Basic internship tasks:
- Help organize KZFR events
- Help coordinate communication between KZFR and the Chico community
- Help coordinate internal KZFR communication between staff, programmers, members and listeners.
What we look for:
- Individuals interested in event planning
- Individuals who enjoy networking and working with others
- Previous experience working with media outlets a plus
Music Library Internship
Basic Internships tasks:
- Receiving and organizing new music
- Previewing and assessing new music
- Logging and documenting new music
- Maintaining the KZFR music library
What we look for:
- Individuals who are detail orientated
- Individuals who have a passion for music
Production & Technical Internship
Basic internships tasks:
- Assist programmers using KZFR broadcasting and technical equipment
- Assist production of radio spots
- Assist in equipment maintenance of studio and other equipment
- Basic website maintenance and training
What we look for:
- Individuals who have an interest in the production of radio programs
- Previous experience in audio editing, live audio engineering, or recording equipment a plus
- Previous experience with interactive websites and social networking a plus
Marketing and Administration Internship
Basic internship tasks:
- Assist in maintaining communication with KZFR underwriters
- Assisting with office tasks
- Official interaction with KZFR members
What we look for:
- Individuals interested in marketing and/or business aspects of non-profit organizations
- Individuals who are detail orientated and organized
- Previous experience in an office setting a plus
News Internship
Basic internship tasks:
- Field research and news story development
- Attendance of city meetings and important events
What we look for:
- Individuals who are interested in local news and working with others
- Individuals who have previous experience with a news media outlet, basic knowledge of digital audio recorders and strong written skills a plus
Program Development & Research Assistant Internship
Basic internship tasks:
- Work directly with KZFR programmers
- Research and develop stories and/or find information for programmers
- Help KZFR programmers enhance and improve their shows
What we are looking for:
- Individuals who enjoy working closely with other individuals
- Enjoy learning about new topics and have basic researching skills
- Interest in current events and enjoy involvement in the community
