The Chico State University Film Series presents “Those Who Remain”, winner of multiple awards, including Best Documentary at the Los Angeles Film Festival. This film depicts the other-side of the immigration story...the impact of Mexican migration to the U.S. on the families left behind. It will be shown on Tuesday, September 7th at 7:30pm on campus in Ayres 106. This event is co-sponsored with the Office of Diversity in honor of Hispanic Awareness Month.
Join the Chico Ragtime/Tin Pan Alley Open Mic for an evening of music from the mid-1800s to 1950s, and acoustic music that fits in with the sound of this era. Besides lots of singing, there will be piano, guitar, violin/fiddle, mandolin, banjo, uke, bass, organ, harmonica, accordion, clarinet, sax and mountain dulcimer. To participate in the open mic, just provide some brief information about your music and composers. Performances are held to our 10 minute rule. This event will take place on Friday, September 10th beginning at 6:30pm, at The Terraces, located at 2750 Sierra Sunrise Terrace, off Bruce Road in Chico. An "Odds & Ends Yard Sale at the Patrick Ranch Museum" will offer a variety of items for sale including furniture, tools, books, housewares items toys and more. The yard sale items were donated by museum volunteers and friends. No Museum artifacts or belongings are involved in the Yard Sale and proceeds will benefit the upcoming and ongoing events at the ranch. The sale will take place on Saturday, September 11th at 7:30 am until 2:00 pm at the Patrick Ranch Museum, located at 10381 Midway. For more information and to donate items, call 354-3276.
An outing for the whole family with activities and displays will help you experience what it was like to live, work and play in the “good old days”. The Gold Nugget Museum in Paradise presents “Days of Living History” with activities such as washboard laundry, candlemaking, gold panning, breadmaking and more. All of this will take place on Saturday and Sunday, September 11th and 12th between 11am and 4pm at the Gold Nugget Museum, located at 502 Pearson Road in Paradise. Get ready to Rhumba! Chico Concours d’Elegance Preview Gala includes a fine dining Italian buffet and a special guest band out of San Francisco: Steve Lucky and The Rhumba Bums featuring Carmen Getit. There will be dancing to jump-blues, ‘40s and ‘50s R & B, and swing, drawing from the likes of such legends as Big Joe Turner, Louis Jordan, T-Bone Walker and Ruth Brown. This evening will take place on Saturday, September 11th at 6:30 pm till 11:30 pm, at the Butte Creek Country Club. Net proceeds from this event will go to benefit Chico Youth Athletics. An interview workshop is being offered by the Butte County Library on the second Tuesday of every month. The Chico State University Film Series will presents “Chimes at Midnight”, directed by Orson Welles. and contains text from five Shakespeare plays. It was based on Welles's play *Five Kings*, an adaptation of four Shakespeare plays which he produced in 1939 and again in 1960. It will be shown on Tuesday, September 14th at 7:30pm on campus in Ayres 106.
