Student and Young Adult Health Report 9.10.2010 by Emerald Behrens

Summary
Young adults need to know their options for health care. Since they are the largest un-insured age group (age 21-30) medical care is largely out of reach for them.

For those without coverage or with limited coverage, college and community health centers may offer resources they can use. Certain services may be free if they qualify for government programs or low-cost alternatives such as the Family PACT program.

President Obama’s Affordable Care Act of 2010 may help some young adults remain on their parent’s insurance plan until they turn 26. But some may not be accepted until January 2010 or with certain restrictions. Checking with an insurance provider is strongly encouraged.
Young adults and students in college should know their options regarding health care—especially what is and isn’t covered in their insurance plans.
